Previous pop-up turned Italian bar and trattoria, Rocco's has garnered a cult-like following thanks to its meatball subs and cosy Fitzroy location.
Alongside designers Studio Co & Co, Proper Carpentry was engaged as the builder and site manager to achieve a full refresh of the internal decor of the 2-storey building. Together we turned a retired kitchen into one of Gertrude Street's most prominent fine-dining/late-night establishments — next door to the likes of Poodle, Marion and Cutler & Co.

With an ever-expanding scope of work, there were no shortcuts taken to complete this playful yet refined build. Using locally-sourced, furniture-graded hardwoods and a timeless approach to joinery construction, the warmth and fun contours of the rich-amber details create an overall aesthetic that makes dining more sensory than just those delicious Italian flavours. Collaborating with some of our best trades in Melbourne, we achieved a cohesive and seamless build featuring cosy booths, open kitchen and bathrooms — adding up to one of Proper's favourite builds to date. Shortlisted for the Eat Drink Design Awards 2022.
